Marble is thus a sedimentary rock which was transformed with the time. Contrary to granites, the calcareous stone take an important patina. It means that it lives and evolves over time. Marble and calcareous stones are susceptible to acids due to their calcareous composition and also to spots due to their higher porosity compared to granit. The marbler can reduce this last property by correctly waterproofing the stone but the sensitivity to acids remains unavoidable.
